How do I start investing?
A relative of mine has some shares of stock in his name (but bought them for me) and I would like to transfer them to my name in order to get experience and practice.
Right now, I’m having a hard time figuring out how to do this. (I know, I know, maybe I shouldn’t be transferring it to my name if I don’t know very much about investing – but let’s ignore that part for now…)
He recommends I start an account with TD Ameritrade. I noticed that their website says "apply for account." Does the word "apply" mean it could get rejected?
And once I get an account, do I have to pay a transfer fee from his account to mine?
This is probably a dumb question, but I assume that you have to pay some brokerage fee when you buy/sell stock in the future. Right?
Again, I know very little about this, so a "For Dummies" answer would be best! Thanks!

I’ve ordered The Mutual Funds For Dummies book and its on its way. But I was also looking for other books/audio/websites that teach the basics in a very simplified manner. I have never EVER had an interest in investing. Now I really want to learn about it. Thanks.
